Katie Cheyne

The twang and jangle of indie-country.

Moments of Matter is everything a stereotypical indie-country album should be (if a genre such as this exists). It has the jangly guitars, some fiddlers, vocals with a southern twang, and lyrics expressing the importance of cracking open a nice cold beer. Oh yeah.

It is more of a mainstream sound, so it may not meet up to the standards of Wilco or The War on Drugs fans. While some of their melodies written for the guitar are catchy, it is difficult to notice them once the disturbing vocals enter. With this being said, if you‰’re typically a fan of country music, this album is right for you.

Despite the opening line “We left the party when we ran out of beer,‰” delivered in an unsettling way, “POC‰” is one of the better songs on the album, showing of the band‰’s emotional side. Filmstrip has a soothing sound and writes about daily events that often become too routine to take note of.
