“Let‰’s waste away, let‰’s save the day, let‰’s try to do it on our own‰” sings guitarist and vocalist Martin Fawley to a string of chords that are warm and inviting yet distant and nostalgic. The sort of sentiment he presents in the aforementioned lyrics, a dichotomy between you letting life and life letting you is the daily struggle of an ambitious but burnt-out college student. Sure it would be nice to listen to Range Anxiety on a faraway island (preferably the coast of New Zealand to be more specific), but the dorm isn‰’t a bad view either. Regardless, it‰’s hard to pin down Twerps. Some of their songs are so reminiscent of Craft Spells‰’ second wave 80s spin seen in their new-ish album “Nausea,‰” whereas other songs, like track five, “Stranger,‰” evoke Mr Twin Sister through similar female vocals. But in the end, Twerps is Twerps. Classic layering of dreamy voices. Good ole college rock-esque chords. Solid but not exactly prominent percussion. Simply practical.
