A Journey from upbeat love to depressing heartbreak

The organ, the quick strums of the guitar, and the keys. The instrumentation of Love as First Response sounds more like a 70s funk band than any indie band or artist that Joel Michael Howard has been opening for. Then the second half of the album happens. The first two tracks, “Something Different‰” and  “The Way I Love you‰” bring out funky guitar strums and juicy organs, whereas the second half of the album brings it down a notch, turning to the more somber side of love songs. “Wanna Be‰” is more ambient, with guitar riffs that sound like Real Estate. The album goes from upbeat and funky to low and sad, and finishes with a mix of the two with the track “Pete and Mary.‰” So if you want to go on a journey of happy, sad, to comme ci comme ca check this album out.
