WATCH OUT FOR

Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied by The Fratellis

TO BE RELEASED AUGUST 21, 2015

Earlier this summer, I was sorting through a Gmail inbox full of “SUPER SUMMER SALE‰” notices I do not have the funds to shop when I spotted a free offer I would have been willing to sell my soul for. The Fratellis, masterminds behind the played-at-sports-arenas-and-shanty-bars-everywhere anthem “Chelsea Dagger,‰” had just released a single for download in preparation for their new album, Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied.

I have been endlessly and irrationally in love with the Scottish trio since the discovery of their hell-raising first album Costello Music single handedly pulled me through the awkward years of middle school, although part of me wishes the hiatus they embarked on in 2009 had been indefinite like advertised. This is not to say I‰’m not excited for Tongue Tied. Just that it follows 2013‰’s less-than-magical We Need Medicine and that the two singles released off of it so far are barely managing to keep their heads above mediocre.

Will this keep me form snatching up the album like a handful of jacks the second it drops? Hell no! In fact, I‰’ve already bought my ticket for their DC show and have begun the mental and physical training necessary to claw my way up to the front row. But, for the 99.9% of the population that doesn‰’t share my zeal for the boys from Glasgow, you probably won‰’t be hearing much of this album, lest it’s in my dorm room where it will be looped form dawn till dusk.
