San Diego-based Wavves is headlining The 9:30 Club On October 7th with Twin Peaks. Wavves, named after the lead singer‰’s fear of the ocean, was first noticed by music bloggers who enjoyed the lo-fi, do-it-yourself nature of their work. Wavves’ recent release with Cloud Nothings reveals much more mature subject matter than their earlier work, which was mainly centered around themes of the beach, weed, and a disdain for responsibilities. The members of Twin Peaks have been making music together since their high school days. Their groovy, 1960s-esque brand of punk rock is inspired by bands such as The Replacements and Ty Segall.
