San Francisco shoegaze band  Whirr was dropped by Run For Cover Records, through whom the band released two splits and an EP, for recent transphobic tweets targeting punk band G.L.O.S.S.

G.L.O.S.S. (which stands for Girls Living Outside Society‰’s Shit) has taken over the underground punk scene in the past few months with their  invigorating demo. Bleeding with the brutal honesty punk is known for, each of the demo‰’s five is a rousing vocalization of queer and trans experiences.

G.L.O.S.S.‰’ demo has been met with high acclaim for both their musical prowess and their the fresh voice their providing the the music industry. Whirr was apparently of a different impression, which they shamelessly expressed through this unsympathetic twitter exchange which has since disappeared from the band‰’s account:

Whirr was naturally met with a ton of hate tweets, and the lead singer og G.L.O.S.S. even created a Twitter account just to speak back. But the biggest consequence of the band‰’s insensitivity was Run For Cover‰’s quick decision to dropped Whirr from their label and express their support for G.L.O.S.S.:

This morning, an apology was released for the insensitive comments on Twitter by Nick Bassett, Whirr‰’s founding guitarist. According to the tweet, the comments were not issued by the band at all, but a close friend who had free reign of the band‰’s twitter account:

Since the publication of this article, there has been no response to this apology outside of the mixed comments of a few personal twitter accounts.
