Mixtape: WVAU Background Music

Zarek Chase

Just because you’re chatting on your radio show doesn’t mean you need to kill your momentum with dead air. Former WVAU DJ Zarek Chase gave us a few tips on using background music effectively. “Adding in backing music while you talk is a pretty easy way to improve your show – it means the music doesn’t have to stop, even during talk breaks, and it’s a good way of taking care of dead air if you have a pause. The best music for this music without lyrics or where the lyrics don’t really matter, since other people’s voices on the track can distract from your talking. Most of the songs below are examples of artists/albums you can mine for background music. It takes a little practice to make using background music sound good, but it’ll make your show sound even better.”
DJ Zarek shared with us his selections of the best funk, electronic and instrumental hip hop to play while you talk. Check out his more expansive, 808-track background music playlist on Spotify!
