Daniel Harnett – Under the Veil Unseen

Everything but the kitchen sink.

Daniel Harnett has been around for awhile, just not as a recording artist. Theatre star gone rock artist, he has been successful performing live around NYC for a few decades. In this full length LP, he throws in soft meandering acoustic tracks, some psych funk melodies on “Like 17”, and more 70’s rock on “Wow, Dan.” Lyrically the album is not groundbreaking, but his voice is soft and interesting, and the album is mixed and produced in a way that makes it sound like a movie score at times. For the soft and sweet slow dance type, check out “Baby You’re Too Good” and for more ballad-esque tracks (not vocally, he doesn’t wail, he just complains) listen to “You Took Too Much of Mine.” This album is brave, but doesn’t keep you coming back for more.
