Going on my “Girls Who Sing Softly‰” playlist

Please bear through this review with me, as I continuously pause to wipe away tears of a mixture of sorrow, beauty, regret, happiness, melancholy. I‰’m lying on a hammock, fulfilling that nostalgic polaroid photo that we all dream we shall once be the subject of in “Too Long.‰” I‰’m in an indie rom-com set in the early ’70s as my boyfriend, Joey, leaves me weeping on our raggedy paisley couch as he gets taken away to fight in combat in “Joey.‰”

I‰’m walking around the National Portrait Gallery on an on-the-verge-of-raining-day in Washington, D.C., avoiding everyone, avoiding my responsibilities, and all I can listen to is Tica Douglas in “Ease.‰”

I could give you a scene for every song, really, but the point is this: “Joey‰” got the ~feels~ Some might complain that Douglas isn‰’t bringing anything new to the table really, but I care to disagree. Douglas‰’ very well-put-together hodgepodge of dreamy indie vocals and acoustic guitar but also echoey chamber sounds (XXish) as heard in “Too Long‰” and just the obvious genuineness of it all is simply refreshing.

PLS listen. PLS.
