Epic folk revival, the second coming

This trio of sisters produces sweet melodies that are deeply poignant. They harmonize over arrangements that always feel as if they are about to blow up into a a powerful climax of a chorus, taunting you until they raise their beautiful voices as their instruments gradually get louder, only to return back to their soft refrains and poetic lyrics. Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Judy Collins and the scores of other prominent female vocalists come to mind when hearing this album, when hearing this trio of sisters, and the Staves continue to carry this torch of folk music, they continue to ensure that folk music remains, perverse and adapts from one generation to the next, adding elements unique to our time, but writing songs universal in their themes of love, loss, sadness, and heartbreak.
