John Andrews & The Yawns, "Bit By The Fang" (Woodsist)

John Bassney

Americana from amish country

Honky tonk piano, sloppy recording, and church organs used in a folk/country style find themselves all over Bit By The Fang. Fans of tThe Band, fans of late Bob Dylan, fans of early Dr. Dog rejoice! Bit By The Fang represents what those artists were mimicking in their attempts to isolate themselves in the rural North in order to create albums such as Music From the Big Pink, or The Basement Tapes, albums that are simple, and sound like they were self-recorded (to be fair they were, but not out of necessity). Bit By The Fang was written and recorded in John Andrews’ grandparents living room. It doesn‰’t get more desperate than that. Each song sounds as if it could have been recorded in the Big Pink. Bit By The Fang is an album made out of desperation, passion, and a genuine love for American musical traditions, and as such it demands respect.
