Concert Preview: Freak Slug and Huron John at Songbyrd

After her recent album, “I Blow Out Big Candles,” Freak Slug will be coming to Washington, DC, performing at Songbyrd Music House on March 31. Xenya Genovese, better known as Freak Slug, is an English singer and painter. The new release is everything indie-rock, alt-pop and more. It features interesting production and instrumentation, and feels very upbeat and carefree, reminiscent of the sounds of bands like Momma or Pom Poko.

Songbyrd is the perfect venue for her to play at, as its intimate feel creates a perfect environment to really connect with the music and the performer. Accompanying Freak Slug is Chicago-based indie/alternative/experimental artist Huron John. He is returning to DC following the release of his third album (“Indigo Jack and the New World Border”) and a headlining show in DC in September (also at Songbyrd). Like Freak Slug, he takes a lot of inspiration from visual art; throughout his discography he has created an entire visual and sonic world.

This won’t be a show to miss, so make sure to grab your tickets here, and come to Songbyrd Music House on Monday, March 31. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m., Huron John will play around 8:00 p.m., and Freak Slug will finish up the night!
