Concert Preview: Hippo Campus at The Anthem

If you’re available on Jan. 31 and are a fan of artists like COIN, Winnetka Bowling League or Peach Pit, I have the event for you. Hippo Campus is performing at The Anthem at 8 p.m., and YOU should be there.

Hippo Campus is an indie rock band from St. Paul, Minnesota, that has been steadily gaining popularity since 2017. You may have heard songs from their first LP, “Landmark,” which was released in February 2017 with hits like “Buttercup” and “Way It Goes.” In Sept. 2024, the band released their fourth LP, “Flood,” which wasn’t as popular as “Landmark” but definitely should have been. I recommend checking out the songs “Everything At Once” and “Forget It.” I know you’ll love them. “Flood” is an absolutely beautiful album that this tour is correlating with, so whether or not you attend the tour, you need to listen.

Opening for Hippo Campus is Pete Martin, known professionally as Petey, from Royal Oak, Michigan. Petey has a vibe similar to that of Hippo Campus, with a bit of an emo/electropop touch. You may know him as a TikTok personality with over 1.5 million followers or from his 2021 hit single, “Lean Into Life.” The combination of Hippo Campus and Petey is bound to be a great time.

The Anthem is mostly general admission, with some tickets available on the balcony level where you have a seat. But expect to be standing and dancing to your favorite indie sounds. To get tickets, just head to The Anthem’s website and grab them before they sell out. General admission is $45 without fees or $75 if you prefer a balcony seat.

If you still aren’t sure about attending the concert, just listen to my favorite Hippo Campus song, “warm glow.” The nostalgia and warm, summery feeling will have you excited for the weather that is soon to come!
