Concert Preview: Jean Dawson at 9:30 Club

Not even a month after the release of his fourth studio album, “Glimmer of God,” the indie-rock/trap/pop genre-transcending artist Jean Dawson has deemed Washington, D.C. to be worthy of his presence once again. Coming back to grace the stage of the 9:30 Club on Nov. 2, the Inglewood, CA-based musician is ready to bless us with a body of music that’s almost as hard to pin down as he is. Even better, he’s bringing Quadeca along for the ride.

This is going to be an eclectic show because Dawson is nothing if not versatile. If you held me at gunpoint and forced me to describe his sound, I might say something like ‘if Kevin Abstract, Yeezus-era Kanye, and the baroque sensibilities of early Panic! had a baby,’ but at that point, you might as well just pull the trigger. From the droning, heist movie soundtrack bassline of “Play Dead,” to the beautifully orchestrated instrumentation of “The Boy and The Swan,” Dawson pulls from a diverse range of musical influences that make his music more than just the sum of its parts – and make this show one that you can’t afford to miss.

This is gonna be a good one. Trust. Tickets are available here.
