Concert Preview: Melt at 9:30 Club

Combining a traditional indie-pop sound mixed with soulful and textural backtracks, Melt is performing their third to last show for their debut album “If There’s a Heaven” at the 9:30 Club on Nov. 7.

Raised in the Big Apple, the band Melt was formed on a complete whim in high school after winning a battle of the bands concert. Although this is the group’s first official album,  Veronica Stewart-Frommer (lead vocals), Lucas Saur (bass), Marlo Shankweiler (guitar), and Eric Gabriel (keyboard and vocals) have been releasing music and performing for seven years. Their first single, “Sour Candy”, was released after their win and quickly went viral on Reddit. Since then, Melt has released 16 singles, leading up to their accomplished goal of releasing an album. After the band graduated high school, they all moved to different cities from DC to Boston. But that didn’t stop their musical creations, as they would meet up on the weekends in New York City to perform together. In 2022, Melt members graduated from their colleges and immediately dove into pursuing music full-time. Their tour began on October 3rd, and will continue through November 16th.

Melt’s music is reminiscent of an early Chappell Roan combining deep melodic choruses with a fun upbeat indie-pop sound. They draw a lot of inspiration from Fleetwood Mac and Muna marrying the gap between soft rock and electro pop music. Their album “If There’s a Heaven” was recorded in the Catskills where the band shared a cabin. They sat together and sang without adding background vocals or autotune. They recorded this album among friends in their most intimate moments and it reflects in their music. The album is a 36 minute love letter to any and all relationships, platonic or romantic. The songs capture the push and pull of relationships, wanting what you can’t have, staying when you should go and seeing your other half in everything.  Don’t miss out and get your tickets now, here.
