Concert Preview: Sadurn @ The Atlantis on 11/9

A surprise to no one, but Philly’s got another alt-country-folk-rock band that I can’t get enough of. Sadurn jumped off the page with their 2022 debut album Radiator, and call me a glutton for punishment because since then I’ve been impatiently awaiting more of their devastatingly sentimental slowcore. G Degroot’s vocals are gentle and their lyrics deeply personal. It’s the type of music that’s gotta be (and is) backed up by a twangy acoustic and steel pedal guitar. Their sound is deeply embedded in the Philly alt-country/slacker rock tradition; bands like Friendship, Kurt Vile and the Violators, and Florry all sticking out as viable comparisons for their sound. Seemingly drawing on personal narrative for lyrical inspiration is what really lets Sadurn stand out from the crowd, each song feeling like a confessional conversation with a dear friend.

Their newest album, The Underworld, provide as pure a communication of Love and heartbreak as I’ve heard in a while. What’s even better is that Sadurn is coming from Philly to DC for a show at the Atlantis up by U Street! This intimate venue is a perfect setting for their sound to resonate and I’m ecstatic to hear them live for the first time after a stellar sophomore album release. I hope to see you all at the show on Monday, November 9th, and don’t be upset if I shed a couple tears on your shoulder when I hear them play “Can’t Stop” for the first time.To buy tickets, visit the Atlantis’ website or click .
