HFStival is Back! (Preview)

HFStival is back! After a 19-year hiatus, the DMV’s favorite alternative rock festival is ready to take on Nationals Park this Saturday, Sept. 21.

In 1993, former alt-rock radio station WHFS hosted its first festival in RFK Stadium. Gen X-ers and DMV rock history fans will know that due to the ’90s “Nevermind” craze, this festival gained a cult-like following, attracting around 60,000 people each year. However, in 2005, WHFS was abruptly dissolved, HFStival dissolving alongside it. However, thanks to Seth Hurwitz, founder of IMP and co-owner of the 9:30 Club, and The Washington Nationals, the iconic festival is making a comeback.

Featuring artists popularized by WHFS and college radio DJs in the ’90s and early 2000s such as The Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie, Jimmy Eat World and Liz Phair, HFStival is sure to tap into that classic “Nevermind” nostalgia that fans have been craving since 2005. The festival will also include special “Blast from the Past” DJ appearances and various other activities for festival-goers to enjoy in-between sets.

Although the festival is this weekend, tickets are still available for purchase on the Nationals Park website and Ticketmaster. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. with music beginning at 12:30 p.m.
