Active since 1997, Of Montreal has released 19 albums, not to mention their various EPs, compilations, and singles. Over the course of their releases, it is clear that their style has shifted. Their debut album Cherry Peel has a much softer, calmer feel than many of their recent albums, which have the signature sound of cacophony. Perfect for dancing around your room, going on a jaunt around DC, or just as a means to uplift your mood. To match their vibrant sound, their album covers feature a wide array of visuals, and are named accordingly, with titles that are long, complex, and kind of weird (i.e. “If He Is Protecting Our Nation, Then Who Will Protect Big Oil, Our Children?” and “Freewave Lucifer f<ck f^ck f>ck.”).
In their previous performance at the 9:30 Club, Of Montreal was accompanied by three backup dancers, who went through the costume changes to end all costume changes; for example, two of them being used to make up a horse and the other sitting atop riding it. At the end of the show, they released a long string of balloons that was passed around the entire audience, bringing together the audience to wrap up what was truly such an incredible show!
I know I am ecstatic to see Of Montreal again very soon. And the good news is that tickets are remaining, so you can all buy them and see what they have in store this time around.
