Field Medic Concert Review

Members of WVAU’s e-board pose with Field Medic’s Kevin Patrick Sullivan after his Oct. 5 show at the Atlantis.

Just as expected, Field Medic’s show felt like a meeting with an old friend. What was unexpected was the insane power and sheer raw talent that could not be captured through his albums. Even his live albums did not do the complexity of his voice and composition justice. As soon as Field Medic took the stage with “Without u id have nothing,” I knew it was going to be one of the best live shows I had seen in a while. Field Medic took the stage at the Atlantis with a bassist, a drummer, and a small stuffed animal that watched over the amp. The room was small, only a capacity of 450 people, but every person there was at that show for one reason: their love of this bedroom folk rock sound. Regardless of age, background, or aesthetic, Field Medic turned a room of strangers into a group of friends. The Light is Gone 2 Tour wraps up in about a week, and although he has been consistently touring in D.C. around this time for the last three years, in a brief chat while he signed anything a fan could find in his pocket, he shared with me that he thinks he will take at least the last year off from touring to work on music and relax for a little. Personally, I hope he comes back before my time in D.C. comes to a close, and I hope you all get a chance to see this fantastic act live soon.
