Dear Lovely WVAU Reader,
Welcome to my last article of the semester! For anyone who has been reading my articles thus far, thank you! I hope to see you again for the spring semester. I have the honor and privilege of submitting this article on Spotify Wrapped Day (basically a national holiday for all music fanatics) and I would love to introduce you all to the artist of one of my top songs for this year: Chappell Roan.
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz is a 25 year old singer and songwriter who is better known by her stage name, Chappell Roan. Amstutz is originally from Willard, Missouri, where she began writing and singing with a dream of a record deal and ticket out of Missouri. At just 17 years old, Amstutz signed a deal with Atlantic Records. After the release of her first EP, “School Nights,” in 2017, Amstutz decided to leave Missouri once and for all and made her way to Los Angeles the next year. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Amstutz shared that when she began living in LA, she was able to live out and proud as a queer woman for the very first time in her life.
For listeners like myself, there is much to enjoy about Chappell Roan. Besides a very unique style of songwriting and production, she also possesses an extravagant sense of style that has undoubtedly helped her garner attention from her audience. Chappell Roan often wears large ball gowns, eye-catching patterns and materials and colorful makeup looks. At the beginning of her latest tour in 2023, she encouraged fans to follow a set theme for each of her shows and choose their outfits accordingly. Each theme is picked based on the title of one of her songs, and fans have creative freedom to find outfits they deem to be appropriate for that night. Her tour will continue through April of 2024.
